Alton Sports Centre

Alton Sports Centre is an East Hampshire District Council owned sports facility located on the south-eastern side of Chawton Park Road, around 1.5km to the west of the town centre.

The new sports centre will have an internal GIFA 6091m2 across two floors, the sports centre is also to have outdoor floodlit, fenced synthetic turf pitches along with vehicular, pedestrian and cycle routes. The proposed site is 3.29 hectares and is occupied by existing leisure facility which was built in 1973 and this sports centre will remain operational whilst the new centre is constructed.

The programme for this project is 104 weeks, which also includes demolition of the original building and the new car park construction.

Internally the facilities will consist of:

  • 25m x 13m 6 lane indoor pool and 15m x 10m learner pool with moveable floor wet-side village change in line with Sport England guidelines.
  • A large fitness suite will be spacious enough to house the latest cardiovascular and resistance equipment as well as dedicated areas for stretch and free weights.
  • Two generously sized Studios will make it possible for the centre to offer an extensive range of classes/activities to members and visitors with dedicated first floor dry changing facilities providing clean, spacious areas in which participants can change.
  • Dry changing facilities will be provided at ground floor to serve both the Sports Hall and new external 3G pitches.

  • A distinctive Spa will be created which will include a range of treatment rooms, sauna, steam, hydro pool and relaxation areas. The Spa will be linked to a Hot Yoga Studio and its own changing rooms.
