Company of the Year

Metnor Construction topped one of its most successful years to date when it scooped the main prize at the first round of the North East Business Awards 2017.

A record number of guests were at the Newcastle Marriott Hotel in Gosforth Park to see the firm, which went through a rewarding branding exercise last year, take the coveted Company of the Year trophy.

The award was the last of the night to be presented at the Northumberland and Tyneside Awards 2017, the 15th annual event organised by The Journal and its Teesside sister paper The Gazette.

Held in association with the North East England Chamber of Commerce, the awards shine a light on the region’s businesses, celebrating their successes.

All the winners from the Northumberland and Tyneside event go through to the regional final, together with those from the Teesside and the Durham, Sunderland & South Tyneside heats.

Hosted by BBC presenter Ingrid Hagemann, more than 400 people were at the black tie event to see Metnor Construction win the Company of the Year award, pipping Aspire Technology Services and Go North East to the post.

Stephen Hall, Senior Tax Partner and Head of Deloitte Newcastle presented the award, stating that “The judges recognised Metnor Construction had invested heavily in business development over the past 12 months after employing a new Managing Director and Marketing Manager.”

Stephen continued, “Although a large percentage of its current construction activity is outside the region, Metnor has its roots very much in the region, and is now one of the largest privately owned construction companies in the region.”
