Trafalgar Street, Newcastle
Completed in August 2011, this project involved the design and construction of a new multi storey office building linking into an existing fully occupied office block. Two roof extensions were added to the existing listed structure whilst keeping the floors below fully operational.
This was a very tight site and close liaison was required with all tennants and neighbouring property owners during construction. With the main East Coast rail line bounding the site, Network Rail had to be advised of our activities on a daily basis. We also had to arrange for partial decanting of staff when breaking into the existing building and re-positioning the service entries. Our client was Metnor Developments and Ryder the project architects, who were also one of the building’s sitting tenants.
Since conception, Generator Studios has won several awards for its contemporary design, blending old and new while providing innovative working spaces. This phase took the success of the initial conversion and further developed it to provide excellent high quality office space over a five storey extension. It has a staffed reception, coffee shop and bookable and communal meeting rooms.
