Lauder Lodge Care Home, Edinburgh
This project comprises of the design and build of a three storey, 60 bedroom care home on a brown field site following the demolition of an existing disused car showroom. The building includes a café, hairdressers, cinema, library, activity spaces and a family room. Inchview is designed with dementia friendly sensory gardens accessible by all ground floor tenants with a play area for children visitors.
Bedroom groupings are designed to reduce confusion amongst residents with all floors equipped with its own dining room and quiet room. Residents have access to terraces and balconies on the upper levels which give views over to Arthur’s Seat and the beach.
The building was constructed using traditional load bearing insulated blockwork and insitu concrete floor slabs, precast concrete stairs and lift shafts. The external elevations are a mixture of red brick, white rendered clockwork with vertical zinc cladding on the upper storey and the structure is completed with a single membrane flat roof with deep overhanging eaves.
This project was completed in November 2017.
