Sleeperz

Sleeperz Hotel, Newcastle

This project involved the construction of a six storey pre-cast concrete framed hotel on the former site of Network Rail‘s Parcel Sorting Office. The building was constructed using an off-site pre-fabricated panel system because of the extremely limited site bordered by Newcastle Central Station and Westgate Road, a main east to west thoroughfare through the city.

Maintaining access for Network Rail personnel, the general public and two adjacent tenants across the site at all times during construction works demanded close co-operation with all stakeholders.

The hotel has  retail outlets and reception on the ground floor and five upper floors with 98 bedrooms. It has a roof top viewing deck which gives panoramic views of the city.

Completed in January 2012, the building subsequently received the RIBA’s Hadrian Award for Architectural Excellence in 2012 as one of the best new buildings in Northern England.
