This project comprises the supply, install and construction of two new data halls and their associated plant and equipment including: new sprinkler pump, dock leveller and steel access gantries.
The project is situated on the existing Colt Telecommunications site in Welwyn Garden City, formerly a large supermarket distribution centre.
The structure is made up of piled foundations, a steel portal frame and reinforced concrete slab. The envelope is constructed of aluminium cladding and louvres with external steel stair cases. The roof is made up of a warm deck insulated system, with support steelwork for roof top equipment. Internally, the building is open plan and floors, walls and ceilings are installed in a pre-finished whitewall.
The project is split into 3 phases; offering two data halls upon handover of each phase. In order to build the project in phases, the introduction of temporary cladding and weather protection will be used until the entire building is fully complete. This will be carefully coordinated and sequenced to ensure that ‘Live’ plant areas during Phase 2 & 3 are not adversely affected. New surface and foul drainage is also to be installed to service the new building.
