£5.6 Million Care Home in Portobello, Edinburgh

01/10/2016

Care UK and specialist construction partner Metnor Construction Ltd have celebrated the start of work on a new £5.6 million care home in Portobello, Edinburgh.

The care home will feature 60 en-suite bedrooms and will boost the provision of high quality residential care, specialist dementia care, nursing, and short term respite care in the city.

The purpose-built three-storey home will feature facilities including a cinema and hairdressing salon.  A coffee shop will open onto a second floor terrace, where residents can take in views westwards to Arthur’s Seat and eastwards to the beach at Portobello. The home will also have a secure and landscaped garden for residents to enjoy, while some ground floor bedrooms will also have their own individual patios.

Speaking at the start-on-site ceremony in July this year, Gary Renton, Construction Project Manager for Care UK said: “We are delighted work has begun on the new care home in Edinburgh; not least because this impressive development reflects our commitment to improving the provision of residential care in the city.”

Chris Cant, Managing Director at Metnor Construction Ltd, added: “Construction of the new home has got off to a great start and we are currently on schedule for completion in April 2017.  This is a key project for Metnor and our 12th project with Care UK. Our collaborative approach works well and we are all proud to be playing a part in the delivery of a high quality building that will welcome many residents for years to come.”
