With help from the Deputy Lord Mayor of Birmingham and pupils from Oasis Academy Woodview, Edgbaston, we broke ground on the former BBC Pebble Mill Studios for a new care home, due to open its doors in 2018.

The design and construction of a part 2 storey – part 3 storey, 35,000 sq. ft., 62 bed ensuite residential dementia care home on the BBC Crèche site within their former television studios in Birmingham.  The BUPA care home forms part of the multimillion pound Edgbaston Medical Quarter; a development of the entire 27 acre Pebble Mill site.

The L shaped building provides a range of services and long and short-term care for elderly, frail and dementia sufferers. Facilities will include ancillary communal areas, dining areas, family areas, medical/therapy rooms, cinema, activity suites and a hair salon.

The scheme will also feature secure gardens, external landscaping, on-site parking and a roof garden on the second floor.

Varying materials were used for the external finishes of the building including feature natural slate hangings, brick, timber cladding and render. It is a steel framed construction with pre-cast concrete stairs and landings.

The project commenced on site August 2016.
