Groundbreaking at Sheringham Leisure Centre

30/10/2019

The ground has officially been broken to mark the beginning of construction work to build a multi-million-pound leisure centre in Sheringham, expected to be completed in summer 2021.

North Norfolk District Councillors joined staff from Metnor Construction and Everyone Active to celebrate the major milestone in the development that will see the existing 31-year old ‘Splash’ replaced with a state of the art facility with lots of new features.

The new centre will include a six-lane, 25-metre pool, a 13-metre learner pool with an adjustable depth floor, fitness suite, community rooms, multi-purpose studios, a spin studio and a café. The existing centre, Splash, will remain open while the new leisure centre is built on a different part of the site.

Cllr. Sarah Bütikofer, Leader of North Norfolk District Council, said: “This is a significant investment in leisure facilities in North Norfolk and demonstrates the Council’s commitment to supporting the health and well-being of its residents at a time when many councils are unable to do the same. With the range of facilities that will be on offer for everyone to enjoy, I am looking forward to watching a centre being built that we can all be proud of and that will be enjoyed for many years to come.”

Dan Hicks, Area Contract Manager at Everyone Active, added: “We’re delighted to be working alongside North Norfolk District Council and Metnor Construction to bring such a fantastic new facility to the people of Sheringham. It’s an exciting moment to be celebrating construction work now officially getting underway.
