Teamwork at Backworth Park Primary

18/06/2018

On Tuesday 12th June, Metnor Construction and a representative from the National Federation of Builders (NFB) spent the day at Backworth Park Primary, where the children are eagerly awaiting the completion of their new school building in time for the upcoming school year.

Having seen architect’s impressions of the new school, and how it has come to life, we were keen to show the children the technology behind construction. Supported by the NFB, we were able to bring Virtual Reality Goggles to demonstrate Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology. The goggles took the students on a virtual tour of a new James Bond themed hotel, where they were asked what changes they would make if they had designed the building.

Communication was the theme of the day, and whilst the goggles were being tried, we set the classes the task of building tetrahedrons, using wooden sticks and rubber bands. We were really impressed with their teamwork, with all the pupils looking like they were enjoying the challenge!

Backworth Park Primary school is due to complete in the Summer of 2018 and we are looking forward to welcoming all the students into their new building. You can read more about the project here.
